Newcastle District Group


Everyone welcome!

The Newcastle Group meets at the Hunter Wetlands Centre. A map (and directions) of how to get to the Hunter Wetland Centre can be found on their web site -

Our meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month (except January). December is an informal Christmas gathering.

People start arriving at our meetings at around 7:00 p.m. with the formalities starting at 7:30 p.m.

Visitors are always welcome to our meetings.

Highlights of our meetings:

  • Plants (seedlings) for sale to members;
  • Raffle plants;
  • Plant table where plants brought in by members are identified and discussed;
  • Outstanding guest speakers;
  • A quick run down of upcoming events;
  • Supper and chat.
Annual Wildflower walk at Dudley

Celebrate Spring with us in a slow walk through the wildflowers of the coastal heath.
Enjoy the beauty of the blooms against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. Local experts will help with identification and ecological information. All welcome, all ages. Fairly easy walking along sandy tracks. Bring a hat and a drink.

Awabakal Nature Reserve - Dudley

Meet at the far end of Ocean Street, Dudley.  (catch the 322 bus)
Sunday September 10, Groups will start at intervals 10.00-10.30, finishing by 12.00 midday

September Speaker:

Lynda McPherson will talk on “Native Terrestrial Orchids of the Hunter Region Botanical Gardens”. As well as her work at the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens, Lynda is currently working at the Don McNair herbarium and is recording the locations and species of all of the terrestrial orchids at the University of Newcastle.

Plant Sale

Huge sale of our nursery plants.  Saturday Sept 9 at the Hunter Wetlands Education Centre carpark, 10am to 3pm.  All plants for just $2.50 each.
