A Spring Extender

18 Dec 2017 10:07 AM | WARREN SHEATHER (Administrator)

The blaze of yellow flowers from the wattles blooming in spring makes this a cheerful season.

In our garden we grow another yellow-flowered native plant that has a lengthy flowering period that extends from the warmer months to early autumn.

Goodenia ovata, the Hop Goodenia, is a medium shrub that carries masses of yellow flowers well after the wattles have finished flowering.

Hop Goodenia specimens are scattered throughout our garden and provide a spring feel to our domestic landscape for many months.

Give plants a light prune after flowering. Coupled with its blooming bonanza is the ease with which cutting, of this species, take root. Once you have one plant then numbers are easy to build up and spread throughout the garden.
