News from the AGM

North Shore group at AGM (H Miles)

On Saturday 21st May 2022 the APS NSW AGM was held, hosted by Parramatta and Hills group.

After the AGM formalities, Peter Olde gave a talk on grevilleas for pots and small gardens. A report will follow in the near future.

Thanks Parramatta and Hills Group for your wonderful afternoon tea and support on the day. Plant sales were available on the day and members walked away with plenty of plants to fill the gaps in gardens due to the level of rain we've had!

At the AGM, the office bearers from 2021 were re-elected. Heather Miles will remain President, John Aitken as Vice President, Harry Loots as Treasurer and Merle Thompson as non-titled office bearer. They join the board directors appointed by groups. We also recognised two new life members and the Conservation Award – see below. Please join us in congratulating the worthy recipients of these awards.

Life membership awarded to Dr Robert (Bob) Failes.

Dr Robert Failes has been a stalwart of the North Shore Group and a staunch supporter of their endeavours. He has held a myriad of volunteer roles within the organisation since joining in 2003.  He has made a significant contribution to the APS Walks & Talks program at Ku-ring-gai wildflower gardens.

Sydney Royal Easter Show

Banksia flowers and foliage. Menai Wildflower Group first place entry (L Hedges)

At the 2022 Sydney Royal Easter Show, three of our district groups showcased a brilliant range of Australian native plant arrangements.

Menai Wildflower Group, Sutherland and Central Coast all spent full days arranging cuttings contributed by group members.

See the full list of categories and results here.

The three groups put in a huge effort and should be highly commended for showcasing just how gorgeous and versatile Australian native plants can be.

On our website, you can see photos of some of the arrangements that were entered.

Final words...

A member in the Blue Mountains has an almost complete collection of Australian Plants journals, which she is happy to give to a good home (i.e. free). In addition, she has a rare seven volume set of Flora Australiensis, by George Bentham for sale. If you are interested in either of these, please email office@austplants.com.au, and we will connect you.

We need your help.
