Full steam ahead!

Dear {Contact_First_Name},
Good news! ANPSA Biennial Conference bookings are now open and registrations coming in. We are putting on a fabulous, fun and interesting conference and I hope you will attend.
I recently spent a few days in the Snowy, viewing the beautiful autumn flowers as I walked up Mt Kosciuszko. The lake at Jindabyne is the highest level ever seen, and permanent snow drifts have now disappeared. Worth visiting soon.
Hope to see you at the next gathering, or on the Central West trip, which starts on 1 April.
Heather Miles, President

APS members winning awards
Congratulations to Margaret Baker who has been awarded a 2022 OAM (Medal of the Order of Australia). “Oh my goodness, what have they done now?“ was Margaret Baker’s reaction when she opened the email bearing the very surprising message that she had received a 2022 OAM (Medal of the Order of Australia) for service to conservation and the environment. Inaugural winner of the Blue Mountains City Council Environmental Citizen of the Year in 2020, she wondered if her colleagues had nominated her for this second award.

Being more effective with conservation efforts
Conserving native plants has always been a core value of APS. In the recent APS NSW survey, members expressed that they want us to increase our focus on conservation. So on the 12th March 2022, at our quarterly APS NSW gathering, Chris Gambian, CEO of Nature Conservation Council NSW, was invited to come and talk to the group about how APS NSW members can be more effective in their conservation efforts.

Professor Michelle Leishman is an expert on climate change and its effects on plants and the urban environment. In February, she gave a talk to Parramatta and Hills group on a fascinating project she's working on, called the Which Plant Where project. This project, launching soon, is an online database of plants that users can search by postcode to find out which plants will be most hardy for their area.
