Coffs Harbour - change to Field Trip: Urunga Wetlands

  • 24 Jul 2022
  • 10:00 AM
  • 1 Hillside Drive, Urunga

The trip to Roger's property to see his Grevilleas has been postponed to next year due to the wet weather.

Instead, visit the Urunga Wetlands followed by lunch at the picnic grounds of the Bogil Bogil National Park, off Williams Road.

The group went to the Urunga Wetlands some years ago in summer. Now you can see it in winter. For those who have not been there it is truly an amazing rehabilitation of an old Antimony Processing Plant, starting in 2015 and officially opening in May 2017. The plantings that were included in the $10m. project are limited but an amazing example of what can be achieved when thought goes into the task. Highly recommended and great to see changes over the last 3 years.

The picnic grounds are probably a new area for many and a great lunch spot.

Directions

The Wetlands - the new highway has meant some name changes. Thus Hillside Drive runs off Giinagay Way, which is the old Highway. Hillside Drive is one of the last roads on the left before leaving Urunga going south. It is 30 metres down the road on the right. There is a sign to the Wetlands on the old highway (Giinagay Way).

Bongil Bongil NP is on both sides of the new highway 10km south of Coffs. If going from Urunga, it may be best to travel back to the Lyons Road turnoff and turn back onto the old highway now called Pine Creel Way. It is only 2-3km on your left, and 3km towards the coast. .

All welcome.
