APS Newcastle – Guest Speaker: Peter Vaughan – Grafting Techniques

  • 4 Mar 2026
  • 7:00 PM
  • Hunter Wetlands, Shortland

Join APS Newcastle for a free talk with local expert Peter Vaughan on grafting techniques.

Peter will explain the principles of grafting — joining the plant tissues of one plant (the scion) onto the root system of another (the rootstock). Once healed, the two grow as one plant. Grafting offers many advantages to home gardeners, including improved hardiness and earlier flowering or fruiting.

Many gardeners consider grafting beyond their ability, but Peter will demonstrate practical techniques that most of us can successfully try at home. He will also showcase examples of beautiful native plants he has grafted, including Native Cherry Blossom (Brachychitons) and other species.

This month’s outing will be to Hunter Region Botanic Gardens, where Helen Howard will demonstrate her grafting techniques.

General Meeting starts at 7:30 pm.

All members and their guests are warmly invited. A bush food supper will follow — bush food plates to share are welcome.
